Home extension builders and renovations, Melbourne’s south east

More home.
Same address.

Home extensions and renovations, from whole-home makeovers to luxury bathrooms and kitchens, bringing new-build standards to the home and street you already love.

Humble Abode is a registered home extension builder based in Pakenham. We design and build ground-floor extensions, second-storey additions, outdoor living areas and whole-home renovations across Melbourne’s south east, with permits managed and one builder responsible from first visit to handover.

New-build discipline, renovation scale

Built onto your home like
it was always there.

The hardest thing about an extension or renovation isn't the new work. It's making new and old feel like one home. We bring the same trades, tolerances and detailed contracts from our custom builds to renovation scale: extensions, full internal renovations, and the two rooms that make or break a home, bathrooms and kitchens.

  • ✓Extensions & second-storey additions, tied in seamlessly
  • ✓Whole-home renovations and internal reconfigurations
  • ✓Luxury bathroom & ensuite renovations, with certified waterproofing
  • ✓Kitchens, outdoor rooms and alfresco living

How an extension works with us

Four steps.
One builder throughout.

01

Free Site Visit

About an hour on site with Jarrod: what you want to add, how it ties into the existing house, and what your block and council will allow.

Free  ·  about an hour

02

Design & Detailed Quote

We coordinate drawings and engineering with our design partners, then price every element of the work with selections specified, so you know what is included before you sign.

03

Permits

We manage the building permit and, where your zoning or overlays need one, the planning permit too, with a plain-English update every week while council works through it.

Permits typically 6–12 weeks depending on council

04

The Build

Jarrod runs the site with the same trades who build our new homes, matching new work to old so the finished house reads as one home.

10-year structural guarantee

"Jarrod has been fantastic throughout the extension project and accommodated all our modifications without any fuss, under budget and ahead of schedule."

Where we build extensions

Home extensions across the south east.

We are based in Pakenham and build home extensions and renovations across Pakenham, Officer, Beaconsfield, Berwick, Narre Warren, Narre Warren North, Harkaway, Clyde North and Cranbourne, through Rowville, Wheelers Hill, Glen Waverley and Mount Waverley, and out to Gippsland and the Mornington Peninsula.

Past work includes an outdoor living addition at a large family home in Narre Warren North, and the alfresco, outdoor kitchen and firepit lounge at Nixon Drive. If the house needs more than an extension can fix, see knockdown rebuilds or read renovate or rebuild: how to make the call.

Straight answers

Home extension FAQs.

Do I need a permit for a home extension in Victoria? +

Almost always a building permit, and sometimes a planning permit as well, depending on your zoning and any overlays. We manage both, along with the drawings, engineering and soil reports, so you are not chasing council yourself.

How long do extension permits take? +

Typically 6–12 weeks, depending on council and whether a planning permit is needed. We confirm the likely timeframe for your address at the site visit, then update you every week while approvals are with council.

Do you build second-storey additions? +

Yes. We build ground-floor extensions and second-storey additions, tied into the existing structure, roofline and finishes so the new work reads as part of the original home rather than a box added on.

Should I extend, or knock down and rebuild? +

If the house is sound and you mainly need more space, extending usually makes sense. If it also needs a new roof, wiring, plumbing and layout, a rebuild often wins. We give you a straight answer at the free site visit.

How is a home extension priced? +

After a free site visit we prepare an estimate, then a detailed quote with every selection specified, so you know exactly what is included before you sign. If the budget and the brief do not match, we tell you early.

Do you build alfresco and outdoor living areas? +

Yes. Covered alfresco areas, outdoor kitchens, decks and firepit lounges, built with the same trades and warranty as our homes. Nixon Drive is a recent example.

Which suburbs do you build extensions in? +

We are based in Pakenham and build extensions across Melbourne’s south east, including Officer, Beaconsfield, Berwick, Narre Warren, Narre Warren North, Harkaway, Clyde North, Cranbourne and Rowville, plus Gippsland and the Mornington Peninsula.

Is an extension covered by a guarantee? +

Yes. Extensions carry the same 10-year structural guarantee, in writing, as our new homes, and you deal with the same builder after handover.

Outgrowing the house, not the address? Extend it.

A site visit and honest feasibility chat costs nothing.
